Itinerary
Day 1 Depart U.S.A:
Leave the U. S. on your overnight flight to Cairo, Egypt!
Day 2 Arrive Cairo
Arrive in Cairo- a fascinating window into the contemporary as well as Pharaonic or Coptic Middle East, and the heart of the Islamic world for 1400 years. It is a huge, vibrant city; one of the largest & liveliest cities in Africa! You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to our hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time you may have time to start exploring before meeting your Tour Manager and fellow travelers this evening.
Day 3 Cairo to Aswan-Overnight Train
Exciting day! First a guided tour of the Egyptian Museum, then to Giza to see the Pyramids. Of all of Egypt’s monuments, The Sphinx (carved out of a single block of stone), is probably the most majestic. It was named because of its physical similarity to a mythical creature with a lion's body and woman's head who devoured passers-by unable to answer her riddle. It is carved out of a limestone outcropping in front of the Giza Pyramids.
The Egyptian Museum houses over 120,000 objects, including the mummies of Egyptian pharoahs, sculptures and furniture. Tonight, dinner and a train ride overnight to Aswan. (B,D)
Day 4 Nile Cruise-Aswan
Arriving in Aswan, we view the unfinished obelisk and visit the High Dam. We sail on a traditional felucca to the Botanical Gardens before joining our cruise ship. Aswan, Egypt's sunniest southern city and ancient frontier town, is south of Luxor, and has a distinctively African atmosphere. Easy to walk around and graced with the most beautiful setting on the Nile, the pace of life is slow and relaxing. In Aswan the Nile is at its most beautiful, flowing through amber desert and granite rocks, round emerald islands covered in palm groves and tropical plants. (B,L,D)
Day 5 Nile Cruise - Aswan to Edfu
This morning, why not join our fantastic excursion to Abu Simbel - the most complete example of ancient Egyptian architecture? Built by Pharaoh Ramses II more than 3,000 years ago, the temples were moved over a period of years to their new site safely above the waters of Lake Nasser. After lunch, we cruise to Kom Ombo to view this unique temple, shared by two Gods. We reach Edfu, where we spend the night on-board. (B,L,D)
Day 6 Nile Cruise – Edfu to Luxor
Sailing the Nile, we visit Egypt's best preserved temple dedicated to Horus, the Falcon God. Sailing on, we spend the afternoon watching Upper Egypt slip by before arriving in Luxor (the ancient city of Thebes). (B,L,D)
Day 7 Luxor to Cairo-Overnight Train
Today, an amazing day of visiting two of the world’s most incredible sights, the Valley of the Kings, where King Tut’s tomb was discovered, and the sacred Temple of Karnak. In the afternoon see the Colossos of Memnon.
Later, board our overnight train to Cairo. (B,D)
Day 8 Cairo
After breakfast, first we visit Sakkara to see the oldest pyramid in the world, the Step Pyramid. We continue on to the Citadel, Alabaster Mosque and Sultan Husan Mosque and time to shop in the bazaar. A chance to join us for a Light and Sound show at the Pyramids on our final evening together. (B,D)
Day 9 Depart Cairo
Fond farewells this morning as our tour ends after breakfast. (B)
